Polonium: uses

The following uses for polonium are gathered from a number of sources as well as from anecdotal comments. I'd be delighted to receive corrections as well as additional referenced uses (please use the feedback mechanism to add uses).

  • mixed or alloyed with beryllium to provide a source of neutrons
  • used for eliminating static charges in textile mills (β-sources are more common and less dangerous)
  • used on brushes for removing dust from photographic films
  • thermoelectric power in space satellites
  • source of neutrons
