Iridium: uses

The following uses for iridium are gathered from a number of sources as well as from anecdotal comments. I'd be delighted to receive corrections as well as additional referenced uses (please use the feedback mechanism to add uses).

  • making crucibles and apparatus for use at high temperatures
  • electrical contacts
  • hardening agent for platinum
  • it forms an alloy with osmium used for tipping pens and compass bearings
  • Pt/Ir sparkplugs, as used in the MG-F.
