- most chlorine is used in the manufacture of chlorinated cleaning compounds, pulp bleaching, disinfectants, and textile processing
- manufacture of chlorates, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride
- used for the extraction of bromine
- PVC pipe used to provide safe drinking water
