Basic question on ionic compounds.
Submitted by Chriss on 30 July 2007 - 12:01am.I am studying chemistry for the first time, without any sort of tutelage. My main source of knowledge is an anatomy and physiology textbook (Only one chapter is made up of pure chemistry).
So far, the book has covered chemical bonds, the atoms and molecules found in the body, the make up of an atom, and other fairly basic information. I tend to be fairly pedantic so I've been unable to proceed with my reading of the text because I can't quite rationalise ionic compounds.
For example, I can't understand
"HCl + KOH --> H+ + Cl- + K+ + OH- --> KCl + H20(WATER)"

Radiant Catalytic Ionization Technology... Hoax? Safe? What is it?
Submitted by se7en8ight on 4 July 2007 - 6:04pm.Hi guys!
Can anyone explain to me how Radiant Catalytic Ionization works and it's effects?
I've been told and read that it uses metals to catalyze reactions pruducing oxidative compounds which it then releases into the surrounding to disinfect and sanitize... isn't this a bit worrisome since all those oxidants are just floating around to be inhaled and what not?
i really need your help and i'd appreciate it much! Thank you! :)

Homework can someone please help me with Chemical equation
Submitted by Anonymous on 1 May 2007 - 2:19pm.1.What mass of silicon carbide (SiC) forms when 17.8 grams of carbon reacts completely with SiO2 according to the following equation (the molar mass of carbon is 12.01 g/mol and the molar mass of SiC is 40.10 g/mol)?
2.If 0.250 moles of bromine and 0.900 moles of ammonia react according to the equation below, what is the maximum amount of ammonium bromide (in moles) produced?
3.A 25.00 mL sample of sulfuric acid, H2SO4, requires 42.13 mL of 0.1533 M NaOH for titration to the equivalence point. The equation of reaction is provided below. What is the concentration of the sulfuric acid?
References for a lab procedure
Submitted by Anonymous on 17 April 2007 - 3:47pm.Hi,
Can anyone tell me where or how I can find the reference for a standard procedure of Iodine Index or Blue Value? This is for a testing procedure of starch-Iodine complex. Apparently, the procedure has been used here where I work for a long time, but nobody knows where they got it from. The problem is that I need to put a reference on my report that the procedure is standardized and valid.
Thanks,
