New software - request for feedback

WebElements's picture

I'm spending far too long deleting spam posts from Russia and their posters at present. The current software takes too long to update when changes come along since version updates require source code modifications to keep added features working.

I have identified different software that I may switch to over in the next couple of months but I'd like to here what features you like/dislike on the current system, and what features you might like in the future. Please add comments....

It looks like you've updated

It looks like you've updated the forum. It looks nice, but I think it loads slower than the old package.

Negative; you do have the

Negative; you do have the option to delete a user's posts in phpBB using the Admin Toolkit. Simply upload it to the forum's root and exexute it -- you will be asked to input both an admin and a mod password in which you will be able to log in to manage users directly from the database.

I am not sure which software you guys are using... I'm no expert. However, I suggest using phpBB as it offers tons and tons of features that are not offered here.

I know this topic is old; sorry to dig it up.

Cheers.

IT loads at the same speed

IT loads at the same speed for me. Of course, it's taking me a little longer to get used to the different layout, and the different way new posts are advertised, but on the whole, speedy, speedy, speedy as always.

I know last year I tried

I know last year I tried contacting you by email, but you never replied, but I wanted to ask you for permission to use the pictures of the elements and the sound files you have for pronouncing the element name for my program I am making. I don't plan to edit the pictures in any way except for resizing and I am will not edit the sound files except converting them to wav files so VB could read them. I will give you credit that I got them from you and I dont plan on selling the program, I do plan to give it to my chemistry teacher to use, and possible for her to give it to her students to use as a reference. I could also send you a copy of my final program after I finish it

phpBB does have the disadvantage of not allowing you to delete all posts by certain members, when you have mass spammers. But I like it as a BB medium. And it's free (and better than the other free one).

But I respect that you are the one who has to keep it in order. The only really necessary things are sub and super-scripts. Easy to use for those not comfortable with codes. And preferably quoting of everything, as phpBB does. I know some boards that will only quote the last quoted thing, in a chain of quotes. Very annoying!
