A *yellow* street light.
To create a *yellow* light all the other colours have to be filtered away. Therefore only one line on the spectrum, the yellow line, is left behind.
The remaining light is not filtered out though. It is not produced in the first place. The street lamp is probably a gas discharge lamp and therefore it has one distinct excition energy for all the atoms.
the yellow street lamp is Na vapor

thanks mates for the answers... I'm very happy with the results.
can someone tell which of the following colours of light involve quants of the highest energy.
a)Yellow
b)red
c)Sunlight
d)blue
the spectrum goes from low to high energies like this:
... - infrared - red - green - blue - ultraviolett - ...
sunlight contains all of them including ultraviolett rays so it has the highest energy quants (and the lowest energy quants with infrared)
