Sodium Isotopes
Submitted by miracle on 15 April 2005 - 11:47am.
Dear mates,
What is the most common isotopes of sodium and the realtive isotopic mass of sodium? I have seen some sites saying that sodium has only 1 naturally occuring isotope while other says that there are 13 isotopes some even says there even more, like this website
http://education.jlab.org/itselemental/iso011.html
Please help me to clarify this problem. If you can, can you tell a little bit more detail about the difference between those so called naturally occuring or those unstable ones. Of cource any help is highly appreciated. Thank you for your help.

There is only one naturally occurring isotope of sodium, 23Na. There are, however, 18 radioisotopes from 17Na to 35Na, making a total of 19 known isotopes in all; only 22Na and 24Na have more than momentary half-lifes and they have applications as tracers in nuclear medicine. See http://atom.kaeri.re.kr/ton/nuc2.html for a table of known nuclides.
