Anyone Heard of This Pattern/Function Re the PTE?

Hi,

I was recently studying the PTE, trying to get insight about PV cell design, when I 'discovered' a pattern in the number of elements per period. I was thinking about why there were 8, 18, 18, 32, & 32 elements per period.

I REALIZE that the function I found could have nothing to do with the way the atom works, but I've never heard of this relationship before, and was wondering if "we" already know it. Also, I realize that there could be other functions that would work. Finally, I don't know what use this might be, but maybe someone might, someday.

Basically, I found a function that calculates the number of elements in "the next period", based on just the number of elements "in the current period", using a function and a few constants. You can forget the "NOTZERO(p)" term if you don't consider period 0, which doesn't 'exist'.

Equation 1:
Ep+1 = Ep + (DeltaE0 + [(p+1)/2 * 4]) * ODD(p) * NOTZERO(p)

Where,
Ep+1 The number of elements in the

what's "PTE" and "PV" ...?

Periodic Table of the Elements, and PhotoVoltic cells (sp?) [Solar panels]?

Some Terms, as requested

PTE is the Periodic Table of the Elements.

PV is photovoltaic.

well,
the periodicity is best explained by quantum mechanics and the
descriptions it provides of atomic orbitals.

Facile number games aren't really anything to do with it.

Compare your results with the scientific reason for the periods.

Basically a period will have 2[round up to 1(p+1/2)]^2 elements. Roy Alexander defined that.

Therefore period 1 carries 2[Rndup(1+1)/2]^2=2[1]^2=2*1=2
P2: 2[Rndup(2+1)/2]^2=2[Rndup 1.5]^2=2*2^2=8

etc, etc.

Deryck, Thanks, any links to Roy Alexander info?

Hi Deryck,

Thanks for your reply.

I can only find a trivial amount of info on Roy Alexander. He appears to be a physics trained ASTROLOGER, if there is such a thing.

I'm not sure if you're razzing me, or if he did come up with this relationship.

Any links to info on him?

Thanks

I don't know info on him, but his theory can be seen here:
