How do I find the mass of AlCl3 that is produced when 510 grams of Al2O3 react with HCl according to the following equation:
Al2O3+6HCl -> 2AlCl3+3H2O
Thanks for any help that you can give.

On one side of the equation
On one side of the equation Al2O3 + 6HCl -> 2AlCl3 + 3H2O we have the molecular formula for Al2O3 and on the other side we have the molecular formula for 2AlCl3. Lets call these molecular weights P and Q. That means that we have a proportion 510/P= X/Q; therefore, 510 x Q = P x X. To solve for X we have (510 x Q)/P. You can find P by adding up twice the atomic weight of Al and adding 3 times the atomic weight of oxygen. Q will be twice the sum of the atomic weight of Al and 3 times the atomic weight of Cl.
