SPEEK and functionalized mesoporous MCM-41 mixed matrix membranes for CO2 separations

A series of MMMs was prepared from SPEEK and -SO3 functionalized mesoporous MCM-41. Pure and mixed-gas permeation data showed a substantial increase in CO2 permeability and selectivity with increased loading of -SO3 functionalized MCM-41. The observed increase in permeability and selectivity makes -SO3 based mesoporous MCM-41 promising fillers for gas separation membranes.

Electro-optical switching with low voltage and free hysteresis is achieved by dispersing a small amount of ferroelectric nanoparticles (NPs) into blue phase liquid crystal. The large dipole moment of NPs contributes to the hysteresis-free switching, whereas the low voltage operation results from the introduction of the ferroelectric properties inherent to the NPs.
