Two new polymorphs of Ta3N5 were synthesised by high pressure, high temperature treatment of an amorphous precursor formed from pentakis(dimethylamido) tantalum and ammonia. The new phases form with the U3Se5 and U3Te5 structure types, in line with previous theoretical predictions.
