Spectroscopic evidence for selenium(IV) dimerization in aqueous solution

MP2 predicted IR spectra of different aqueous Se(IV) species revealed features characteristic of the hydrogen selenite dimer, (HSeO3)22-. IR experiments, supported by 77Se NMR spectra, evidenced the existence of this dimeric species.

The coordinatively unsaturated 16-electron half-sandwich precursors [Cp*M(pdt)] (M = Rh and Ir, pdt = pyrazine-2,3-dithiol) have been synthesized. Their bridging and unsaturated attributes are further used in stepwise assembly reactions with binuclear blocks to give a closed molecular box.
