Mechanism of tetrachloroplatinate(II) oxidation by hydrogen peroxide in hydrochloric acid solution

5 April, 2014 - 18:17

Dalton Trans., 2014, 43,6308-6314
DOI: 10.1039/C3DT53057D, PaperPieter Murray, Klaus R. Koch, Rudi van Eldik
A mechanistic study of the oxidation of tetrachloroplatinate(II) by hydrogen peroxide revealed that it occurs via two parallel reactions with hypochlorous acid and hydrogen peroxide which depend on the Pt(II) concentration according to the overall rate law d[Pt(IV)]/dt = (k0 + kH2O2[Pt(II)])[H2O2].
