A novel metal-organic framework 1 was synthesized using a new rigid unsymmetrical tricarboxylate ligand p-terphenyl-3,4[prime or minute][prime or minute],5 tricarboxylate (H3TPT). The micrometer-sized material 1[prime or minute] dispersed in ethanol exhibits high efficiency for the detection of PA.

Discrete assembly of two Re(I) squares was achieved by a simple [4 [times] 1] strategy where the complexes, [Re(4-pytpy-[small kappa]2N)(CO)3Br] and [Re(4-pytpy-[small kappa]3N)(CO)2Br], act as their own ligands.
