The reaction of 2-methoxy-6-(pyridine-2-yl-hydrazonomethyl) phenol (LH) with lanthanide(III) salts (Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho and Er) in the presence of an excess of triethylamine afforded a series of non-planar heptanuclear homometallic complexes. The Gd(III) analogue shows good MCE behaviour (-[capital Delta]Sm(T) = 27.7 J kg-1 K-1 at 3 K over 0-7 T).

A novel single-phased tunable emitting phosphor MgY2Si3O10: Bi3+, Eu3+ has been synthesized by conventional high temperature solid-state method. Upon the 344 nm excitation, the energy transfer from Bi3+(I) to Bi3+(II) and both Bi3+ ions to Eu3+ has been investigated in detail.

The complexes [ML2]n+ (Mn+ = Fe2+, Co2+, Co3+, Cu2+ and Ag+), [PdCl2L] and [CuI(L)] are described. [AgL2]+ is an unusual square planar silver(I) centre (left). Exposure of [CuI(L)] to air affords mono- or dinuclear copper(II)/carbonato products. Two of the copper complexes form crystalline hydrates with complicated hydrogen bond networks (right).

Na substituting Sb in the AgSbSe2 not only improves the power factor caused by the enhanced carrier concentration, but also decreases the thermal conductivity due to point defects, nanoscale stacking faults and Na-rich precipitate. Consequently, a high ZT value of 0.92 is achieved in the AgSb0.99Na0.01Se2 sample.
