The totally symmetric stretch, [small nu]1CaO6 of [Ca(OH2)6]2+ at 283 cm-1, was detected in aqueous Ca(ClO4)2 solutions, while in CaCl2 and CaBr2 solutions in addition to [Ca(OH2)6]2+, contact ion pairs are formed at higher concentrations. In Ca(NO3)2 solutions, weak nitrato complexes were observed.
