Cuprous hydroxide in a solid form: does it exist?

21 May, 2013 - 11:54

Dalton Trans., 2013, Advance Article
DOI: 10.1039/C3DT50351H, PaperInna L. Soroka, Andrey Shchukarev, Mats Jonsson, Nadezda V. Tarakina, Pavel A. Korzhavyi
Unknown cuprous hydroxide in a solid form, recently proved to exist theoretically, has been synthesized using different routes. The reduction of Cu2+ with ferrous EDTA results in the formation of a yellow powder precipitate whose composition corresponds to CuOH [times] H2O. A similar compound has been found on the surface of Cu-CuH powder stored in water. Our study reveals that solid cuprous hydroxide most likely exists in a hydrated form.
