Formation of Cu2+[12-MC-4] metallacrown from Cu(II) and [small alpha]-alaninehydroxamic acid involves the Cu2L2+ species as the fundamental intermediate. La3+ encapsulation, giving La3+[15-MC-5], occurs through the intermediacy of the Cu[12-MC-4]La complex.

The novel complexes trans-[Ru(dppe)2(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CR)(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]P)] (R = CO2Me, C6H4OMe), the first to incorporate cyaphide as part of a conjugated system, are obtained in facile manner. The electronic structure of these compounds is probed by X-ray, DFT and UV/Vis studies.
