The photoswitching behavior of a new Schiff base ligand (H2L) and its binuclear zinc(II) metallacycle (1) have been described. Spectral, electrochemical and theoretical studies revealed that trans/cis isomerisation in 1 ([similar]5.0 sec) is rapid relative to H2L ([similar]25 sec).

A redox active 9-atom, 10-bond -C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]N{Fe(dppx)2}N[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C- bridge is shown to be effective at promoting electron transfer between metal centres separated by some 15 A.

We stabilized two-dimensional light-metal tetrahedral Li-Mg-BH4 frameworks by introducing large counter-cations, the system LiBH4-Mg(BH4)2 being subject to eutectic melting. An obvious similarity to aluminosilicates points towards the existence of zeolite-type hydridic borohydride frameworks.

The synthesis of two new monodentate pyridyl based 4-nitro-1,8-naphthalimide ligands and their corresponding Cu-complexes (using various salts) is described. Of these, complexes 1-3 and 5, all gave rise to structures that were characterised by X-ray crystallography and EPR.
