Fluorescent mesoporous La-Ce phosphate films have been synthesized by a pore-confined strategy involving an in situ growth of La0.5Ce0.5PO4 nanoparticles inside the pores of a sacrificial mesoporous silica film. The films exhibit high fluorescence intensity that can be exploited to detect pesticides or other organo-phosphate compounds bearing nitrophenyl groups in water.

Monodisperse colloids of Co nanoparticles (2 +/- 0.5 nm) have been prepared by the solvated metal atom dispersion method. Annealing the hexadecyl amine or toluene capped Co nanoparticles led to carbonization of particles which imparts them air stability. The pyrolyzed samples display enhanced magnetization property compared to the as-prepared samples.
