Low voltage and hysteresis-free blue phase liquid crystal dispersed by ferroelectric nanoparticles

J. Material Chem. - 26 August, 2012 - 09:54

J. Mater. Chem., 2012, Advance Article
DOI: 10.1039/C2JM34013E, CommunicationLing Wang, Wanli He, Xia Xiao, Man Wang, Meng Wang, Pangyen Yang, Zhangjian Zhou, Huai Yang, Haifeng Yu, Yunfeng Lu
Electro-optical switching with low voltage and free hysteresis is achieved by dispersing a small amount of ferroelectric nanoparticles (NPs) into blue phase liquid crystal. The large dipole moment of NPs contributes to the hysteresis-free switching, whereas the low voltage operation results from the introduction of the ferroelectric properties inherent to the NPs.
