The synthesis and characterization of the new high explosive dihydroxylammonium 5,5[prime or minute]-bistetrazole-1,1[prime or minute]-diolate (TKX-50) is reported. TKX-50 exhibits higher explosive performances than all other high explosives in common use, while being safer to handle than all other explosives of comparable performance.
