Biomimetic approaches for controlled growth of inorganic crystals are applied to the morphology and orientation control of organic crystals. The surface skin of a banded blue-sprat is adopted as a model. The biogenic architecture possesses the mesocrystal structures consisting of the platy guanine crystals and cytoplasm. The morphology and orientation of guanine crystals are controlled by additive organic molecules through a biomimetic approach.
