Zinc Oxide, affectionately known as Zinc White, has been known as a mineral
since antiquity when it was melted with copper to form brass. As we commonly
know it as a medical ointment today, the same knowledge holds true hundreds
of years ago. Sources differ on who first isolated the element but largely
historians can agree that in 1782, zinc oxide was suggested as a white
pigment. Regardless of defined history the early adaptations of zinc oxide
has transcended to use in semiconductors, concrete use, ceramic and glass
composition and even cigarette filters.
