Valence electrons for transition metals

Please tell me how to establish the valence electrons of transition metals, once you already know the atomic number.
For example:
-the valence electrons of:
-Pt - Platinum
-Au - Gold
-Ag -Silver

Transition metals have valence of 2 but sometimes they vary.
I am talking about the valency if that's what u mean
