Dendrimers can significantly improve the mechanical property of epoxy system.
A small amount of hydroxyl groups of dendrimer (CYD-CR111/CYD-CR236/CYD-CV111/CYD-CV486) react with epoxy curing system to form a three dimensional network structure. Blending with the epoxy system by a simple physical method, due to the special structure of the molecule as well as physical interactions with epoxy matrix, it can significantly improve the mechanical properties of epoxy systems. (1) at low temperature (77 K) hydroxy terminated dendrimers can improve the tensile strength and impact strength of epoxy resins, with mass fraction of 10% of hydroxy-terminated dendrimer, compared to the pure epoxy resin system, the tensile strength increased from the original 98.2MPa to 115.6MPa, increased by 17.7%; failure strain increased with the amount increased of dendrimer, when dosage is 10%, increased from the original 1.9% to 3.1%, increased by 63.2%. (2) the impact strength increased from 25.4 ± 2.7 to 32.0 ± 1.0, increased by 26.0%, and after adding the dendrimer, impact strength at low temperatures is not lower than room temperature, and appropriate dosage of hydroxyl terminated dendrimers does not lower Tg of condensate.
