Astatine, At₂, reacts with bromine, Br₂, or iodine, I₂, to form the "interhalogen" species AtBr and AtI respectively. Both of these dissolve in carbon tetrachloride, CCl₄.

Astatine dissolves in dilute nitric acid, HNO₃, or dilute hydrochloric acid, HCl.
